Questions before you install
Is it free?
Yes. The extension and its workspace cost nothing to use. You need an email address or a Google account to sign in.
What does it collect?
Only the posts you annotate or flag, your answers, and the context around those posts: the thread, any quoted post, and images or video. Nothing is sent while you're just browsing. The full list is on our What we collect page.
Which browsers does it work in?
It's built for Google Chrome on a computer. It doesn't run on phones or tablets.
Do I need to belong to an organization?
No. Anyone can sign up with an email address and start flagging posts. To annotate for a study, a lead adds you to their team. With a university email you can ask to join your university's organization, or set one up.
Can we use our own labels?
Yes. Team leads build schemas in the workspace from seven question types, with follow-up questions that only appear when they apply. You can also start from the built-in hate speech labels.
Does it work on sites that aren't listed?
Yes. On any other page, click the toolbar icon and choose Annotate this page, or press Alt+Shift+A.
What if a post gets deleted?
Images and video are archived when you label, so your record keeps them even if the platform takes the post down.
Does AI make the decisions?
No. The panel can show an AI explanation of a post as a second opinion, but every label is a person's decision, and a lead reviews it.
Can my data be deleted?
Yes. You can ask for your account and the annotations you made to be deleted. Our Data deletion page explains how.
How do we get the data out?
Download a spreadsheet, CSV or JSON file, schedule exports to arrive on their own, or connect your own scripts with an API token.
